Many scientists have observed that changes in the structures of the mitochondria, nuclear envelope and many other cellular components occur with age. The Mendenhall lab wants to know that the probabilities of different structural changes/failures are in different cell types with age. They want to learn how to predict the most likely series of unfortunate events in cells, based on a cell’s measured physiology. The ultimate goal is to understand the physiology of the individual cell and individual animal to then be able to administer customized interventions to improve the health of aging cells in aging animals.
