Introns can influence the expression levels of many genes. However, scientists in the Mendenhall lab have found that when introns are removed from some genes, the expression level does not change. This appears to be a function of the promoter sequence of the gene. The Mendenhall Lab wants to understand how introns act to influence expression levels and how this influence may change with age.
