The Mendenhall lab is using and developing many different models of neuronally expressed neurodegenerative disease-associated toxic peptides. They take the approach of placing individual copies of particular genes encoding toxic peptides at defined sites in the C. elegans genome. They use these animals to look at a battery of consequences ranging from motility defects, to changes in peripheral tissue proteostasis.
